UNION TOOL CO. has received "Technical Achievement Award 2016" from Japan Cutting & Wear-resistant Tool Association for the development of diamond coated drill "UDCMX series" designed for drilling cemented carbide.

Since 2012 we've been launching UDC series designed for milling cemented carbide.
UDCMX series was developed by applying UDC coating for drills. We received the award for achieving low-cost and fast "drilling" of cemented carbide which was not practical with existing diamond coated drills for hard and brittle materials because of short tool life.
Currently a lineup of UDCMX series is expanded to φ7.

Following "Technical Achievement Award 2014" from Japan Cemented Carbide Tool Manufacturers Association and "Technology Award 2014" from The Japan Society for Precision Engineering (Hokuriku Shin-etsu Branch), UNION TOOL CO. has received "Technology Award 2014" (the 19th) from The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (Hokuriku Shin-etsu branch) for the development of diamond coated End Mills "UDCBF series".

The new Diamond Coating, flute design and special cutting edge treatment improves tool life and milling performance. With these improvements it has been recognized for its contribution to the "achievement of the low production cost and quick delivery" on milling Cemented Carbide.

Tool life increase on this series makes direct milling on Cemented Carbide more realistic. The special cutting edge treatment eliminates edge chipping and provides a seamless surface finish. As a result, field applications have been expanded for direct milling Cemented Carbide. Awarded the prize for developing this series which has significantly accelerated the process for direct milling on Cemented Carbide (compared to EDM process) by offering higher precision, lower cost and faster delivery on Cemented Carbide molds.

Association for technical achievement for the “Development of new Diamond Coated End Mills for milling cemented carbide” in 2012.

The development of these new Diamond Coated End Mills, enables cemented carbide to be milled in a similar method as hard steel and by using existing CNC machining centers, much shorter cycle times are achieved, with high precision, when compared to previous methods.

The new Diamond Coating is ultra hard, with strong adhesion to the end mill for greater durability, that when combined with specific geometry, allows the end mill to physically “cut” the carbide part often with depths of cut of more than a hundred microns (µm).
